Sasha at 15 Months
Monday, September 8th, 2008

If I had to guess, this will be the picture Sasha will be the most ashamed of when she is a teenager. She'll make me take it down from this website (if Rubintribe is still going), erase it from all files, and tear up any actual prints. But, I love this photo in all its white trashiness. I hope CPS never uses it as evidence of our faulty parenting skills. I write "our" because while I was the one who put globs of peanut butter on the plastic plate for my daughter's dinner and allowed her to eat it on the kitchen floor (she refuses to be put in the highchair anymore), Jimmy lets Sash run around nekkid for LONG periods of time to (in his words) "air out". The diaper rash problems have abated but we have also had to to clean up peepee off the tiles. Sasha LOVES having a bare behind and has gotten very used to the freedom. This makes it 3 billion times more difficult to actually get a diaper on her. You would think her size three Huggies were made of sandpaper and barbed wire because of the way she kicks, screams, howls, arches her back, etc. whenever we change her. She runs away and hides as soon as she sees a diaper. It would be a lot easier if she didn't poop so often. I think I am taking out all fiber from her diet. Only bananas from now on.

Sasha has been becoming more independent. She wants to feed herself, play on the computer, close her bedroom door, push the credit card buttons at the grocery store, choose where to walk & what to read. Everywhere we go, people tell us that she has quite a mind of her own. I don't know if that's a compliment. I hear, "no, no, no, no, no" quite a lot when I am OBVIOUSLY doing things wrong. Sasha know how it is and she doesn't hesitate to tell me. With the way things are progressing, I foresee a lot of eyerolling and sighing in 12 years. I won't tell her she's ruining my life, though, and that all the other parents get to wear pants that go up to their armpits.

My baby is still a cuddler, thank god. We kiss all day long and she often pretends to have an "owie" so I can kiss it better. She loves to hug the little boys and girls at the playground. I just wish she wouldn't do it by slinging both arms around the neck and pressing firmly in a chokehold. While it looks adorable, Sash has caused a lot of tears and gasps for air. Our daughter has started to give some of her love to dolls. She has tried to diaper them and gives thems drinks from her sippy cup. She has a baby stoller she puts them in. Recently she's been obsessed with her babydoll with a removable binky. She tugs the pacifier out and says, "wah, wah" under her breath and hands the doll to me to put the sucky back in. Very adorable.
Sasha also loves her farmset. Her favorite animal is the cow and I hear, "Moooooooooo" all day long. Occasionally she makes the horse and the pig moo. I just wish she wouldn't point to me and moo, also. She really needs to work on compliments.
Sasha has been increasing her vocab but most words are just semblances ("eahhh" for "ears" etc.). Her favorite word is, "up". My guess is she repeats it between 100 and 600 times each hour. It's difficult to carry a twenty pound wiggleworm 24/7. I am hoping next month's word is, "nap". I'm a dreamer because Sash has already gone down to one nap a day. At least she is still sleeping through the night. Knock on wood.
