Sasha's First Dance Recital
Saturday, May 8th, 2010

Sasha has been going to an amazing camp whose primary goal is to physically exhaust the children. They do dance, gymnastics, and swimming. I love this camp. Here are the counselors valiantly trying to corral 3 and 4 year olds into a vague dance routine:

Sasha cute

It is so hard to believe that in one month Sasha will be three. Yesterday she was just a bald headed baby spitting up all over my last clean shirt and now we have a chattering, active little girl with her own opinions on everything (she won't allow me to wear a ponytail and heavens forbid if I go out for the evening WITHOUT putting on makeup and straightening my hair). Her favorite color has gone from pink to purple although she wants a brown-themed birthday (brown balloons, wrapping paper etc...hopefully this will change in a month). She picks out her clothes, the books she wants read, the videos she will watch, the food she will eat...I don't think this kid will ever have a problem with decision making. And, the independent streak! She can open her own doors, get in her own carseat, dress herself, brush her own teeth, clean her face, etc. thank you very much. I generally try to avoid tantrums and thereby allow this sort of behavior. Not good parenting as my daughter prances about in public with a grimy face (and teeth) in fleece pants and a bikini top. At least she is getting better about me brushing her hair (she'll even sit semi-still for 3 minutes if I promise to do braids).

Sasha loves being scheduled. She will actually freak out if she doesn't have the entire day filled to the brim (so much for letting her learn to play quietly by herself). My Dad used to ask my Mom (daily), "What's on the docket?" and my hubby has a calender to keep track of all events- he turns pale with sheer panic if we have even one blank day. From storytime to the Children's Museum to festivals to Pump It Up to swim lessons to music to parks to playdates, we are always running around. I am able to sneak a few errands in, though, because Sasha loves the mini-carts at Trader Joe's and the free samples at Costco. However, it is exhausting for a nine month preggo to be chasing a hepped up girl! It's gotten warm enough to swim so we have added that also!

Sasha down the slide

At the end of May , Sasha starts camp. I am so worried that she won't like it. She has never been separated from Jimmy and I for more than an hour on a daily basis. But, out daughter is pretty social and the camp has PROMISED to exhaust her with a crazy amount of activity. And, it's only for the morning. I just hope the tears (on my end, too) are few and that she'll have a lot of stories to tell me as she starts the process of leading her own life. Maybe she'll even be excited to see me and offer a kiss when I come to pick her up.
