Sasha at 20 Months
Sunday, February 8th, 2009

I don't know if it is the haircut but Sasha is looking less and less like a baby and more like a little girl. I suppose we are now immersed in the toddler stage. Our daughter is certainly testing her limits hourly. Sasha has to feed herself or a tantrum. We are trying to let her have more decisions so she feels independent like choosing her clothes and the books we read at night. We have tried doing it with food but after twenty minutes of standing in front of the frig while Sasha shook her head wildly was a bit too much to bear. The pickiness drives me nuts. If she could, Sasha would live off of pizza and fruit bars and yoghurt. Shoving vegetables down her gullet has become a torturous task. At least she still loves mangoes....

Sasha has acquired two molars!!! I didn't realize how painful it would be. She even bled from the process!
This month has been a flurry of activity. My sister and mom both came into town and spoiled Sasha. My sister had bought a potty for Sasha which she is obsessed with (Sasha that is....although Beck is preoccupied, too). Sasha has even peed in it twice! I took a picture of it but have the foresight and delicacy NOT to post that image to the web. Your welcome. It was pretty amazing although we are nowhere NEAR potty training. I think it was a novelty thing. Sasha is very curious about the process and loves to watch us (and help flush afterwards). I really miss the privacy of being able to go to the bathroom without a nosy baby miming wiping motions.

This month, Sasha's loves include ducks, doggies, taking care of her baby dolls, play doh, markers, puzzles (she is actually very good at puzzles which I am hoping will lead to another crossword lover in the family...it's a big leap but humor me), screaming, running, and going down the highest slides she can find. It gives me a heart attack to see her little body dropping 15 feet. Sasha needs to always be doing something. Thank god there is a park within walking distance. It is getting harder and harder to wear her out. Stupid endurance. No matter how much I pick up and clean, Sasha can total a room in under five minutes. Curiosity and hyperactivity are a lethal combination.

And, even though she would be happy to wrestle with me for hours upon hours, she'll still occasionally hold still long enough so that I can hug her (or try to put a barette in her hair).....or set her off again!
Sasha's First Haircut
Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

Although I have been told that Sasha doesn't have enough hair to warrant a haircut, I firmly disagree. It was getting straggly. And, her bangs were getting in her eyes during swimming which drove her batty with frustration. I had heard Lollilocks was a great place for kids and so I dragged Nonnie with us to try it out. I set my expectations very low because my daughter freaks out if I try to even swipe a comb ONCE through her nest. Don't get me started on the banshee screams rickashaying off the walls anytime I come at her with nail scissors. Also, Sasha was in a bad mood after her nap. A very bad mood.
However, Sasha proved me wrong. The experience was amazing; Sasha behaved the entire time. I think it was because the place is so adorable and kid-friendly. Sasha was excited to sit in the seat shaped like a car and control the "steering wheel".

Our stylist was the sweetest and used to squirrely little monkeys (yes, we left her a very nice tip). Sasha was fascinated with the squirt bottle and the big mirror and all the other kids getting haircuts.
She sat very still. No squirming, no flailing.

It didn't hurt that the cut and styling was over in about five minutes.

And, because Jill and I enthused so much, Sasha was very pleased with her new 'do. Although the butterfly clip came out very quickly (a minute after being put in), the stylist assured me that when Sasha got older, she would be more amenable to clippies and bows.
I can't wait to do it again but am conflicted as I really want Sasha to have long hair. I am making myself holdout until June (when I'll drag Grandma and Aunt Beck). However, I may have to trim the bangs myself in the meantime- yikes!
By the way, I am keeping the few strands cut forever!
