I Hate Sears
Wednesday, December 18, 2007

I am so cranky right now. I scheduled Sears to come out to fix our garage (which I broke) two weeks ago. They missed the first appointment saying that they had come by but no one was home (they had the wrong information) and the earliest time available was today between 8 and 12. So, I have been waiting around ALL DAY and they called at 11:45AM to say they were running late and that they would TRY to make it before 3PM. I asked for a discount from the 65$ fee they charge to come out and the pooheads replied that they couldn't because our appointment was only a REQUEST. They are not obligated to come between 8 & 12. That's some fiiine customer service. No apologies or anything. And if I cancel, I still have to pay the 65$ fee because it isn't 24 hours before the time I scheduled the Sears repair guys to MAYBE come if they finish their three hour lunch early.

So, the Sears guy calls Jimmy at about 4PM. He can't make it today but he wants to know what is wrong with the frickin' door. After 20 minutes the guy gives Jimmy advice on how to fix the garage door on his own, which he does! So, no service call. No fee. Just a $30 sensor and a $8 weather stripping material, and we are back to living the American dream. Two cars in the garage. And, now we can continue the Phoenix tradition of driving into the garage, closing the garage door, and avoiding making contact with any neighbor!

Sasha at Six Months

sasha at six months

I was looking over pictures of Sasha when she was a just a few days old and cliche as it might be, I can't believe how much she has changed. Well, not totally as she's still not sleeping despite stuffing her to the gills each night with cereal. I think I have convinced Jimmy that we are gonna have to Ferberize her (he has ordered tons of books on this sleep method). Oh yes, the disciplining starts now. Of course you'll most likely be reading of my resounding defeat in the next few blogs.

you want a piece of me

Sasha has become more interested in surroundings and has no concept as to why she can't hold everything and place 'em in her mouth. She'll grab for anything in her reach. I am heroically trying to keep knives, fire, and poisonous snakes away from her. The cats can fend for themselves. Missy has been asserting some independence, too. She can feed herself thank you very much. Trying to keep her from grabbing the spoon is a hopeless cause. But, there are more ways to distract her. She'll stop crying if she sees a cat, if I sing (and dance to) the Mickey Mouse Club Song (SIGH!!!!!), and if she see's herself in the mirror. She can stare at her reflection for over twenty minutes at a time; I think Sasha is overwhelmed by her own cuteness.

We have got to start keeping Sasha away from bad influences. I am sorry to say that her friend, Ila, has been giving our baby ideas about crawling. I am perfectly happy with Sasha's continuing immobility but no, there has to be encouragement to crawl from even my mom, sister, and hubbie. I have NOT safety proofed the house yet! I am too busy dreaming about what I am getting for the holidays (hint, hint, Jimmy). If Sasha gets the hang of crawling, I know where to point the fingers of blame. To make matters worse, we were over at a friends' house last night and their two adorable little boys taught Sasha how much fun it is to drop things. They were all howling with laughter as Sasha threw heavy objects around. Great game, guys. It'll be so much fun to pick up crap for the next two years. I just hope Sasha doesn't start mimicking sounds like she does movement. If so, I better start watching my language.

foot in mouth

Sasha hates to be left alone for any length of time. I can't go to the bathroom without her squawking. Jimmy has found a way to stay with her AND do all of his chores.

I Can Feed Myself
Monday, December 3, 2007

Today, the pediatrician gave us the ok to feed Sasha food. We were excited because even though our friends and many books have told us otherwise, Jimmy and I are CONVINCED that this is what will help our baby to sleep more than two hours at a time during the night. She's just metabolizing the formula too fast, right? Rice cereal will fill her belly and be the solution to all of our nightly problems. Soon, I'll be fully rested and life will be perfect. Does my brilliant (non-delusional) logic astound you? It does me.

Sasha loved, loved, loved the paste-like cereal. Jimmy tried to feed it to her but our baby soon had wrestled the rubber tipped spoon out of his hands. SHE CAN DO IT HERSELF. Jimmy lost the battle because Sasha has the arm strength of a 200 lb man. We ended up with a mess and Sasha had gunk all over her face, hair, clothes, and both of us. But, we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. We all love eating and to be honest, I can't remember a meal when I didn't get some part of dinner in my hair or down the front of my shirt.

Unrequited Love

That little black cat plays with baby's heart. There's gonna be a day when Sasha gets a hold of Mu and never lets go.
