Sasha at 18 Months
Monday, December 8th, 2008

I got a lot of complaints last month. Besides the fact that there was only one entry (we're busy trying to move and find renters in this economy!), certain people (my mom) groused that there were no action shots. Well, here you go (actually I had no choice with our little hyperactive bee; she won't sit still for photos anymore...sigh). Most of my days are now spent chasing after her and begging her not to molest the cats, flush things down the toilet, and shoplift (yup, she managed to grab five candy necklaces at the supermarket and howled bloody murder as I returned them to a bored looking salesclerk). I try to take her outside a couple of days to run off some of that energy.

The park is a big favorite. Swings have become a second to the fabulous SLIDE. She will only do the baby slide once before she HAS to go down the highest one....all by herself. Nowhere in any of the baby books I read did it mention that you would have 3 to 4 heart attacks everyday watching your toddler assert her independence. Of course being a bit of a daredevil himself, DH encourages her. Her second favorite activity is picking up trash around the play area (our baby is daddy's little girl through and through). Screaming "ick" and flailing wildly as she fondles a sticky wrapper and cigarette butts hasn't deterred her at all. But, she seems to be attracted to wierd objects. She has a million toys but Sasha would rather play with a...oh, I don't know, lactation pad.

We went to San Diego to celebrate Thanksgiving with my Mom and sister this year. I don't even want to think about what happened on the flight over there. Let's just say that Sasha made buddies with EVERYONE on the plane by kicking the seat in front of her, spilling her ice down a strangers lap, screaming at the top of her lungs, and refusing to sit still in my lap for more than two seconds. Grandma had a blast with Sasha (the two really bonded) and spoiled her terribly by taking her to all sorts of neat places like an indoor play area (I think Mom might have enjoyed herself as much as my daughter). Buoyed by her success at entertaining Sasha, Grandma has been dropping all sorts of hints about Legoland. Yikes! Although she did love the rides at our local amusement park (threw a tantrum as I wrestled her out of the train).

No matter that Sasha now has SEVEN teeth and is in advanced level three swimming, she is still my baby...even if she disagrees.

This month, our baby's favorite words are "more", "up", and "MINE!!!!" I am not allowed to touch her markers or playdoh when she is playing with it. Or dress her dolls. "Mine, mine, mine!" Our daughter mispronounces the word, bye, and instead screams , "Die! Die! Die!" whenever we take our leave. Adorable. My in-laws weren't offended at all. Sasha now has strong preferences. She likes to pick which pajama she'll wear and has to be read her favorite book 3- 900 times a day. "Dog Boh'! Dog BOOOOOHHHHH'!!!!" But, she'll still give her exhausted Mama a hug and a kiss at the end of each day.
