Sasha at 2 Years 3 Months Old
Monday, September 8th, 2009

Boy, the Rubin Tribe is having a lot of problems electronically. Last month it was the computer and now our point and shoot died. I am beginning to think we are cursed! Sasha accidentally dropped the camera (maybe I shouldn't give a 2 year old something so fragile) and we received the dreaded lens error message! I could have cried losing so many pictures. Fortunately I had taken some with the other camera, but the pickings are paltry!

Sasha is a real firecracker. She loves to tell jokes and rewards my antics with, "Mama, you funny!". Poop jokes are always a winner; it is important to know your audience. Sasha has really gotten into singing along with me- her favorites include the Alphabet Song, Bringing Home My Baby Bumblebee, BINGO, and Old MacDonald. Usually she is more on key. Sasha also has the makings of a TV addict. We severely limit her viewing pleasure but we get screams for Blue's Clues at least twice a day. It is truly a dreadful show about a developmentally disabled man and his imaginary friend.

Our little delight loves her babydolls. She takes her two favorite EVERYWHERE (to the gym, grocery store, bed, swimming, etc.). She refers to them as White Baby and Brown Baby. Yep, we've got quite the little racist here. Especially as she likes White Baby a teeny bit more. Sasha ignores the other 10 dolls in her possession so Brown Baby shouldn't feel too bad....Eunice, the one legged doll with pen marks and white crud may be at the bottom of the heap. Probably because her clothes are sewn on....she is the odd one out in our nudist colony of dolls....

Potty training continues to go well. She loves pooping and peeing in her toilet. We have had no disasters...yet...foreboding background music...She is really into her big girl panties especially that they have a small bow in the front. I tried to use it so she would know which way to slide the panties up.

Sasha is starting to connect more with children her own age. Given the choice, she will always opt for a baby (she is OBSESSED with infants- my friend allowed Sasha to hold her 2 month old son. Sasha was in heaven and wants to repeat this experience every time she sees a baby. For a two year old, Sasha is gentle-ish, but I don't think there are two many new mothers out their who like to see their newborn mauled by a grimy toddler). However, she has found herself a little boyfriend; they alternately chase each other. I think Sasha might like the little boy because he has the best snacks.

The big news is that Sasha is almost completely done with the binky! It's been about a month and a half. But she now uses it only during sleeping. It wasn't a battle at all (I was so dreading the tantrums and there wasn't a one...well, over this issue). Sasha was absolutely fine giving it up. What a relief. It has made her speech much more intelligible.

Sasha and mama

I can't believe the summer is almost over. It has flown; we've had such a great time swimming almost everyday (what a little water rat!), going on fab playdates, and PLAYING! From markers to books to cooking me elaborate meals in her kitchen to pretending god knows what, we usually keep ourselves very busy. At the end of the day, we BOTH need a bath and sleep and a couple of hugs and kisses. And, maybe a pink Hello Kitty bandaid because those are super cool.
